The DSL Modem Crucible
Aug. 19th, 2004 02:59 pmIts a personal thing, or I am just unlucky?
July 26th, Monday
Called Brasil Telecom to purchase a DSL modem for my new line at the new home. They informed me that they are out of stock, and since they are out of stock, they are not taking orders. No orders, no preorders, nothing; if I want a modem from them, I have to call again on the 30th. No deal, I call Terra Networks, and they DO have modems, and promise me delivery by express service, in 48 hrs. Woo.
July 28th, Wednesday
No modem...
July 29th, Thurssday
No modem...
July 30th, Friday
No modem...
July 31th, Saturday
No modem...
August, 2st, Monday, to August 7th, Saturday
Moving House Week.
August 9th, Monday.
Called Terra Networks. Informed them of the lack of modem delivery. They say the modem was supposed to be delivered on the 3rd. Since nobody was home, modem was returned to sender.
I remind them of the 48 hr promise. They blabber poor excuses. I insist. They still drone on about the delivery on the 3rd. I remind them that the 3rd is several days LATE from the initial delivery promise. After much argueing, change delivery address. They promise to have the modem delivered by Friday.
August 17th, Tuesday
Call AGAIN... ask about modem. More excuses. Person acts all surprised that I really expected they to deliver the modem by the promised date.
Told they will have a solution for me in 72 hrs.
August 18th, Wednesday, 4:21 PM
Woo, e-mail from Terra Networks Customer Service... w00t, my modem is at the mail office, not with them. I can drop by the express delivery office until friday, and get it. I will go tomorrow.
August 19th, Thursday, 10:34 AM
...
Terra Networks was trippin on something. Mail office kept my modem until 5:45 PM past day, then sent it back. Terra Networks told them I would be picking it up yesterday's morning...
August 19th, Thursday, 1:17 PM
LONG argument on the phone. Threatened to sue. Patience ended. Modem by monday, or I will get all the papers on the deal I have, and sue for maximum compensation (400x the value of the purchase);
